PROCESS SPACE - PLOVDIV BULGARIA
A ten day residency alongside 12 European artists making site responsive work for European Capital of Culture Festival.
Plovdiv, one of the oldest cities in Europe, has a long history of occupation by foreign empires inclding the Greek and Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Turkish, to the more recent occupation by the USSR.
Walking around the city I was immediately struck by the jostling of different architectural styles, cultural artefacts and buildings. Stones and fragements from significant and insignificant sites were collected, wrapped in a fabric that hinted at the city's multu-cultural heritage, displayed in the Gallery Resonance alongside the other artists work and then returned to their oringanl site, to disappear once again into the fabric of the city.
